Fast Track Modernization

Most of the world's enterprise applications are contained within legacy systems. These systems not only contain vital business processes, rules, and information, but they also represent a substantial investment, not only in money, but also in time and human resources.

The Business Case

At first blush, harvesting value from these systems appears a daunting, if not impossible task. Intelligent automated tools, like SuperVisor, overcome many of the labor intensive challenges associated with legacy application modernization, and make modernization a practical solution.

If the total cost of systems replacement is considered, including: purchase price, modification, conversion, training, and interrupted productivity, the savings in time and money realized from modernization can be impressive.

i5 applications in particular are especially prone to modernization, because of IBM's continued enrichment of the platform and because of IBM's well known commitment to supporting software developed in prior versions of its operating systems.

The first big steps

SuperVisor is a robust i5 tool set that, among other things, enables a technical staff to develop their own modernization scenarios in high level CL programs.

However, first time users can jump start their modernization projects by attacking the first and most critical tasks in application modernization:

  • Archiving obsolete objects
  • Reconciling objects to source code

These are menu options on SuperVisor's main menu and their interfaces guide you through the process. Separate projects can be established for each application environment. While the interface is fairly simple and easy to follow, the underlying processing makes use of SuperVisor's powerful deep analytical tools.

These processes provide detailed and summarized documentation and provide a automated way making corrections.
